A new ZINE is finally ready. The photographs inside aren’t recent—they were taken more than ten years ago,
during my trips to Germany between 2014 and 2015.
For about two years, I visited the country regularly for a project, and these images were captured in the small pockets of free time I had.
It’s available for 500 yen, and if you’re on Kindle Unlimited, you can read it for free. If you’re curious, feel free to take a look.
Going through old photographs and turning them into a ZINE is both tedious and strangely enjoyable.
As I look at each image, I find myself thinking:
“What was I trying to do here?”
“Ah… I see what I was aiming for.”
Some shots were taken from inside moving trains, almost like firing a machine gun—click, click, click—capturing unfamiliar streets and unfamiliar scenery.
Looking back, I was simply enjoying the journey.

I also released ZINEs from New York and Hawaii. The Hawaii series, in particular,
has so many tilted frames. Not “slightly off,” but intentionally tilted—as if I believed that shooting with a straight horizon was somehow uncool.
I was young. There was a kind of creative rebellion inside me,
a belief that avoiding level horizons made the photos more artistic.
Good or bad, I wasn’t trying to make “usable” images. I was just taking photos because it made me happy.
Originally, I wanted to start creating new ZINEs from new travels.
But I still have a lot of past work to sort through and publish.
Once I finish that, I’d like to go somewhere new again—with a calmer mind, and a level horizon.
